For creating documents using Latex; great combo for Gnome env in linux.
If you use KDE, then kile is an excellent IDE for texlive.

In Windows, TexnicCenter is a great IDE. Latex installation is a piece of cake. Just check this out: MiKTeX

There are other combos. These are the ones I use. Enjoy Smile
auctex Smile
You can also run Kile in Gnome. (I have Kile running under Ubuntu).
kile is feature-rich and an excellent latex IDE
