Just received copy of "Mathematical Modeling and Simulation" by Kai Velten. Looks like he discusses most of the open source tools available for Simulation and Modeling and includes examples. I know that the book covers CAELinux tools such as Salome, Code-Astor etc, but not sure yet on how much detail he goes into. I will let everyone know of my opinion of book as soon as I finish it. It is a bit expensive at US$100.

Hey there,

I do not know how I overlooked this post. I have heard of that book before. How is it? Does it have proper references and did it keep up with the current?

Please provide a detailed review, Thanks
Work and life is slowing down the process of reading the book. I will however persevere.

The book starts out with examples of mathematical simulations using 'R'. Bit of a stretch to call them simulations as they are more of a solution to a word problem ('Given a system where force causes and change in length find ...'). The overall quality of the writing is quite good: not to easy nor is it too esoteric.

I have an up-coming furlough from work, and getting back to Kai Velten is in the plans for the furlough.
markrw, I having not any type of experience with this book. But after reading your this post I really impressed and came to know that it will surely help me. So I am planning to read that. Hopefully it may be interesting and very useful.
